A bit of history
A personal history made up of intersections and encounters…”
Olivier Garcia was born in 1956, in Lille. Of Spanish origin on his father’s side and Flemish on his mother’s side, his personal history is made up of intersections and encounters.

Having acquired a liking for contemporary art from an early age (Fernand Léger, Picasso, Tapiès, Miró, et alia), his encounter with Jean-Michel Basquiat in 1986 was of decisive importance: despite being a fully-trained doctor at the time, he decided, by choice and by passion, to devote himself to creating contemporary furniture.

During the 90s, he designed reception units, desks, lamps and bookcases. This range of modern, functional furnishings was designed essentially for an exacting clientele of professional people: doctors, psychiatrists and lawyers.

In 1992, one of Olivier Garcia’s showcase designs was awarded a VIA label (“Valorisation de l’innovation dans l’ameublement”), in recognition of his talent for designing innovative furniture. In March 1994, for an exhibition of contemporary painting held at the Enrico Navarre Gallery in Hong Kong, Olivier Garcia designed several unique items, including the reception desk for Mr. Navarre himself.

He gradually came to concentrate his production on the creation of unique items, with a special liking for forms characterized by their mass and purity.

In 2007 he exhibited pieces at the “Design Expo” (at the Espace des Blancs Manteaux, in Paris) and in 2008 at the “D-Room” Gallery in Paris.

He is currently making a reputation for himself on the international scene, and in particular in the Middle East where, in Abu Dhabi in May 2009, he was invited to take part in an exhibition at the Emirate Palace.

At the 2010 Shanghai World Trade Fair in China, he was invited by Art Ambition to exhibit the item of furniture “YES” in the United Nations’ VIP enclosure, and then for a further six months’ exhibition in a highly select club of Shanghai.

Then in Russia – at a collective exhibition in the Moscow Manege, in October 2010.

Exhibition in April 2011 at the Galerie Camoin-Demachy (9, quai Voltaire - Paris 7e) at the Pavillon des Arts et du Design at the Tuileries. He has a show-room at this address for his “Formula One” collection.
