" Formula One" as in “Formula 1 racing”

but also "One” as in a “one-off item” ”

Today Olivier Garcia renders a highly personal interpretation of the materials and colours used in the making of the ultimate designer cars: Formula 1 racing cars. The “Formula One” concept was born of a simple idea: that of working with one of the materials used in the car industry so as to integrate it into people’s interior designs. Why? “I’ve always been attracted to Formula 1 racing with all its technology and brilliant colours. So, just recently, I decided to start putting colour into my furniture designs.”

The lacquer normally used for industrial purposes is applied in successive coatings to the desks, coffee tables, side-tables, beds and lamps which are the fruit of Olivier Garcia’s imagination. Concerning the colours he uses, the designer makes direct reference to the racing car stables which inspire him: red and yellow for Ferrari, blue for Renault, green for Jaguar, metallic grey for Mercedes…. Bright hues set off by a segment of ebony and geometric lines are the hallmark of these extremely functional items of furniture.

“Formula One" as in “Formula 1 racing” but also "One” as in a “one-off item, a form of expression which Olivier Garcia has a particular liking for.

(Yes)
A veritable “family treasure” ”
The most recent product of Olivier Garcia’s inspiration, “Yes”, is an original concept in furniture which combines rare woods, gold and top-quality precious stones to create a desk with a secret drawer…

A veritable “family treasure”, this desk made of ebony incorporates a plaque of gold set with diamonds (pink, yellow, white or black gold with a diamond-machined surface to create a matte effect, set off by polished edges). It represents the finger-print of the client who commissioned the work. The plaque measures 10 x 8 cm or 10 x 27 cm and is inlaid with 1,000 to 1,200 diamonds of between 0.03 and 1 carat each.

Instead of diamonds, the client may choose other precious stones such as rubies, emeralds or sapphires. The final touch is provided by the legs, each of which is made of solid brass sheathed in a kilo of gold which has been applied by goldsmiths of talent to represent figures symbolizing the family history. The desk blotter is overlaid with crocodile, shagreen or lizard skin.

True possession of this unique furniture item, expressing as it does the family genealogy, is conferred only by knowing the secret, which is reserved solely for the person who commissioned the work. Both a treasure and a depository of family history, the singularity of this new creation is epitomized by the owner’s fingerprint. It thus tells a very special story and is designed to pass down a family history which is enriched by each succeeding generation.

The dimensions of this exceptional item of furniture are from 200 x 100 cm to 250 x 120 cm for the masculine version and 140 x 70 cm for the feminine version. The latter version features white sycamore, shagreen skin and white gold and diamonds. The accompanying items of furniture include a bookcase, stools and lamps which are available on order only.
